After the First Date

The date is over. You laughed, found an easy rhythm, or learned something unexpected about each other. Maybe there was a great goodbye. Maybe it was simply a solid first meeting and you would like another one. Now the connection has to move from a chat on a screen into real life, then back onto the screen again.

People can make this part much stranger than it needs to be. Some disappear because they are trying to look detached. Others send a flood of praise, analysis, and reassurance because they want to lock in an outcome. Neither response is especially useful. A good follow-up is simpler: show that you enjoyed meeting, give the other person room to respond honestly, and make a clear plan when you want to see them again.
